Frequently Asked Questions
The installation process for our Tonus™ Raft panels is both simple and efficient, requiring no specialised fitter. These acoustic rafts are easily suspended from the soffit using steel cables, facilitated by unique spiral hooks securely embedded into the raft’s reverse via clockwise rotation.
Adjusting the height level is easily achieved by manipulating the length of each cable upon insertion into the eyelet hook. Moreover, for enhanced design flexibility, Tonus Raft can be set at various angles to suit aesthetic preferences.
To ensure proper installation, spiral anchors should be positioned approximately 200mm inward from the edge of the Tonus Raft panel.
Included within our hanging kits are a Top Hat fixings (bullet which screws into the ceiling), 2m Adjustable Wires and Spiral Hooks (anchors into the rear of the raft), providing all necessary components for a seamless installation process.
Determining the optimal quantity of Tonus™ Raft isn’t an exact science. Broadly, increased surface coverage leads to greater sound absorption and reduced echo. As a general guideline, aiming to cover approximately 30% to 50% of the ceiling area typically results in effective sound absorption.
Tonus™ Raft core material is a compressed polyester manufactured using post-consumer recycled polyester from plastic bottles.
Your Tonus™ Raft order will include the raft and the required number of suspension kits to suspend the raft from the soffit. However, we do not supply the screws as the appropriate screws will be dependent on your soffit structure ie. Plasterboard, concrete, timber which your local DIY store will be able to recommend.
Yes, Tonus™ Raft is limited to these felt colours. We hope you can find a colour you like in this selection however, if you can’t find the perfect colour choice for your space please get in touch and we might have an alternative option for you.
Yes, although we have a standard range of the most popular sizes it is possible to have a customised shape or size of the Tonus™ Raft to suit your requirements. However, there are some limitations in these shapes and max sizes that are possible to manufacture due to weight and panel size.
When installing the Tonus™ Raft, you should consider the mounting surface. The right surface should ensure a secure, long-lasting installation. Suitable surfaces include:
- Drywall: Attach rafts using suitable screws, ensuring the drywall is in good condition.
- Concrete: Use appropriate fasteners like concrete screws or anchors to securely attach baffles.
- Plywood: Mount rafts directly or install plywood as a substrate over other surfaces.
- Metal Studs: In commercial/industrial spaces, attach rafts directly to metal studs using suitable screws.
- Exposed Beams: In open spaces, use clamps or brackets designed for beam mounting. Ensure the surface is clean, dry, and capable of supporting the rafts’ weight.
- Suspended Ceiling: Fix through the ceiling tile and then into a timber pattress for support or use lighting/signage clips to suspend from the ceiling grid.
The only fixings you will need in addition to the supplied hanging kits are the screws to attach the Top Hat fixing to the soffit. We do not supply these screws as the appropriate screws will dependant on your soffit structure ie. Plasterboard, concrete, timber which your local DIY store will be able to recommend.
Tonus™ Raft comes with a one-year manufacturer’s warranty, providing coverage for any defects in materials or workmanship. This warranty is to ensure peace of mind for our customers, guaranteeing reliable performance and quality assurance.
Tonus™ Raft has been tested and offers EN 13501-1:2007+A1:2009 Fire classification of construction products and building elements—Part 1: Classification using data from reaction to fire tests, Class B.
Tonus™ Raft effectively absorbs direct sound and reflections from ceilings and upper wall sections. While it doesn’t address noise transfer between rooms, it noticeably diminishes noise within an open area. Installing the appropriate number of baffles achieves significant results, reducing echo and reverberation for a quieter, more tranquil atmosphere. Calculate the estimated quantity needed for your space and discover what results could be achieved using our reverberation time calculator.
Tonus™ Raft has great acoustic properties and offers a high level of sound absorption to reduce unwanted echo and reverberation. For a breakdown of the acoustic performance tested against different frequencies, please see our datasheet in the downloads section on this page.
Tonus™ Raft is manufactured in and shipped from the UK.
