Frequently Asked Questions

There are three methods available for installing Tonus Slat:

Direct Gluing onto the Wall: Use a construction glue or high strength grab adhesive for this method.

Direct Wall Screwing: For black-backed panels, use black screws. Ensure a minimum of 9 screws per panel, spaced at 200mm intervals across the width and 800mm intervals down the length. When installing on ceilings, ensure they are affixed to ceiling joists. If installing into plasterboard, ensure appropriate fixings are used.

Mounting Panels onto 45mm Timber Batons: First, screw 45mm timber batons onto the wall, then secure the panels directly onto the batons through the acoustic felt to optimize sound absorption. When combined with Rockwool sound insulation between the batons, this method achieves much improved sound absorption level.

Determining the optimal quantity of Tonus Slat panels isn’t an exact science. Broadly, increased surface coverage leads to greater sound absorption and reduced echo. As a general guideline, aiming to cover approximately 30% to 50% of the ceiling area typically results in effective sound absorption. Alternatively, opt for an entire wall coverage for a stylish feature wall and enhanced performance.

Tonus Slat is made of black acoustic felt (recycled polyester from plastic bottles) and the slats have an MDF core with a wood veneer surface.

Your order will consist of the Tonus Slat Wall panels only and you will require tube adhesive and screws dependant on the installation method you chose.

When installing the Tonus™ Slat, you should consider the mounting surface. The right surface should ensure a secure, long-lasting installation. Suitable surfaces include:

  • Drywall or plasterboard – Panels can be mounted directly using adhesive and black drywall screws.
  • Concrete walls – Panels can be adhered with heavy-duty adhesive and black screws.
  • Brick and masonry walls – Panels can be affixed using heavy duty adhesive and black screws.
  • Lightly painted walls – Surfaces should be roughened slightly to improve adhesion. Avoid glossy, heavily textured or damaged painted walls.

Selecting the right compatible surface ensures secure panel installation and optimal acoustic performance.
